New Liquor Store Coming to VFW Parkway

Despite the West Roxbury Neighborhood Council voting to not support an alcohol license to be transferred to a proposed liquor store on the VFW Parkway, Boston's Alcohol Licensing Board did support the transfer. Thus the Town Line Liquor Store will be opening at 1524 VFW Parkway soon.

The West Roxbury Neighborhood Council voted earlier in June, 5-2, to not support a liquor license to be transferred to a proposed Town Line Liquor Store on the VFW Parkway. But the Council's vote is only a recommendation, and the final say on the transfer of the license from a Roxbury business to the proposed West Roxbury business was ultimately decided by the Boston Licensing Board this past week during a hearing.

The business is expected to be open 8 a.m. to  10 p.m., except for on Sundays when it will open at noon.

Neighborhood Council member Stephen Smith previously stated why he was one of the five who voted to not support the license transfer.

"I voted against it for a few reasons, the main reason being we already have a number of liquor stores in this community and have not heard anyone express the opinion that West Roxbury needs another liquor store," said Smith to Patch. "I didn’t like the image it sends of putting a liquor store in a block of businesses that includes a child care center and we were going to have a business with hours later than the other businesses in that block so the neighbors behind it would be dealing with car traffic noise that they have not had to deal with in the past."
