Small Business Voice: Awakening Excellence Adult Center

The local senior center, owned by two Boston natives, is located on 1208A VFW Parkway.

Awakening Excellence is a new senior center in West Roxbury.

Established by owners Ashley St. Julien and Emmanuelle Renelique in 2014, Awakening Excellence aims to assist the local elder community, with emphasis on those of low-income brackets. St. Julien and Renelique were both born and raised in Boston.

The company’s mission statement says “with an international, bilingual appeal, we will provide a diverse community where seniors can come, spend the day and be pampered.”

Awakening Excellence Adult Day Health Center is a licensed community-based day care program providing a variety of health, therapeutic, and social services to those at risk of being placed in a nursing home.

Staffed by skilled professionals including licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers and activity staff, Awakening Excellence works with physicians, arranges doctor appointments as well as counseling for the patient and family of the patient. Services include self-esteem boosting activities, Zumba and dance classes, transportation and meals funded through Medicaid.

Note from the owners: Our target market are residents aged 65 and over living in the Suffolk County region, specifically in the West Roxbury, Dedham and Hyde Park neighborhoods. Our market segmentation are individuals of Caribbean descent. We understand the unique perspective of those in our market segment.
