Suspect Caught with GPS Units & More Stolen Loot from West Roxbury

Boston Police arrested a Roslindale man who was allegedly caught with bulging pockets full of stolen loot.

On Dec. 6 around 5:40 a.m., Michael A. Kast, of 95 Brown Ave. #2, Roslindale, was arrested and charged with larceny from a vehicle of $200 or more, and receiving stolen property.

An officer on patrol noticed a suspect fitting the description of a man who was allegedly checking car doors in the area of Ivory and Perham streets in West Roxbury, and stopped him at the intersection of Temple and Ivory streets.

The officer asked the suspect what he was doing in the area, and the suspect said he was visiting a friend who lived on Centre Street, according to a Boston Police report. The officer noted the suspect's coat pockets appeared bulging as if they contained some heavy objects.

The officer asked the suspect if he had any weapons on him to which the suspect replied, "I don't think so." The officer asked the suspect if he could check and the suspect allegedly replied, "I don't think that's necessary" and as the suspect said this he began reaching for his coat pocket. Fearing the suspect was reaching for a weapon the officer grabbed the suspect's arm and placed him in handcuffs for both of their safety. 

During a pat-frisk of the suspect, the officer foudn a flashlight, a pocket knife, two GPS units and a lot of loose change. The suspect was asked who the GPS units belonged to and he said they were his and the home address would be his, according to a Boston Police report. But the officer quickly learned the GPS units were registered to two other locations - Greaton Road and Montclaire Avenue. Thus the suspect was placed under arrest for receiving stolen property.

During the booking process the suspect was also found with stolen credit cards, a Samsung tablet, a Canon camera, Sony headphones, an iPod registered to someone else, a Garmin car charger, an iPod charger, and a removable thumb drive. The suspect also had $132.81 in loose change.

Three victims were able to come in and claim their property.
