West Roxbury Man Charged with OUI after Police Follow Weed Scent

Boston Police followed their noses to find a West Roxbury man smoking marijuana in his car, leading to his arrest for driving under the influence.
On May 24 around 3 p.m., Brandon Maryland, of 4885 Washington St., West Roxbury, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of a controlled substance, marijuana, according to a Boston Police report. He was also issued a citation for OUI with a controlled substance, and possession of a class D drug, marijuana.

Drug Control Unit officers were conducting surveillance in the area of the Speedy Mart, when they smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from a nearby vehicle. Officers observed the suspect allegedly smoking a small "roach" in his right hand, while the vehicle was running. Identifying themselves as police, they approached the vehicle, and observed the suspect's eyes to be red and glazed, with large dilated pupils, according to a police report.
The suspect provided police with another joint from his pocket after exiting the vehicle. Officers observed the suspect's motor skills to be slow, and he allegedly had a hard time understanding verbal commands, according to a police report.

The suspect was arrested, and the vehicle was locked and parked legally. The marijuana seized was sent to a drug lab for analysis.
