Mobster Charged In Connection With Murder of Steven DiSarro

DiSarro, of Westwood, was manager of The Channel nightclub in South Boston. He disappeared in 1993.

A New England mobster was arrested Monday in Florida in connection with the murder of Southie nightclub manager Steven DiSarro.

Robert DeLuca, a 70-year-old former member of the New England Family of La Cosa Nostra, has been indicted under allegations that he obstructed a federal investigation into DiSarro's murder.

The arrest follows the discovery of DiSarro's body, unearthed by the FBI behind a mill in Providence, Rhode Island, this spring. His remains were positively identified earlier this month. DiSarro, of Westwood, was 43 when he was reported missing 23 years ago. He was manager of South Boston's popular Channel nightclub.

DeLuca was indicted on one count of obstruction of justice and two counts of making false statements, after allegedly lying to federal officials investigating DiSarro's death.

DiSarro disappeared in May 1993 after a federal grand jury began looking into The Channel's ties with then-La Cosa Nostra boss Frank Salemme and his son, Frank Salemme, Jr., according to the indictment. DeLuca is also charged with lying to federal authorities about his knowledge of other organized crime murders.

He could face more than a decade in prison and fines of $500,000 between the different charges.
