Newtown Native Organizes Fundraiser for Sandy Hook Victims at Local Business

Dana Passero Leonard, a Newtown, Conn. native, who now lives in Hingham is working with Petit Papillon Yoga, Bodyscapes Fitness and other local residents and businesses for a fundraiser on March 24.

A Hingham mother of two young boys, from Newtown, Conn., is rallying her new community to support her hometown after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Dana Passero Leonard, with the help of Julie Sullivan from Petit Papillon Yoga and Bodyscapes Fitness, is organizing a family-oriented fundraiser this weekend, just across the Weymouth line at Bodyscapes Fitness in the Hingham Shipyard.

The Hope and Healing for Sandy Hook Family Fun Day will take place Sunday, March 24 from 4 to 6 p.m.

"Like everyone, my heart aches each time I think of the families who lost loved ones that fateful day and for all the children left behind to deal with such an unimaginably traumatic event," wrote Sullivan in an email.

The event will benefit the following Newton-focused charities: The Sandy Hook Family Healing Fund, Healing Newtown-Healing through the Arts and My Sandy Hook Family Fund.

"The event is a day of family fun, full of activities from face painting to yoga for the little ones," said Monica Higgins, Sullivan's friend.

Petit Papillon will hold a family yoga session from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., on Sunday. There will also be children's entertainment from Silly Sally, face painting, arts and crafts, music and balloon animals.

A silent auction will also take place. Items up for auction include a new UppaBaby Stroller, Boston Red Sox tickets, girls fitness clothing from ivivva athletica in Hingham, New England Revolution tickets, Black Rock Country Club. There will also be gift certificates for Carolanns on the Square, Stars on Hingham Harbor and Tosca.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 each for children under 12. Admission covers all activities and food provided by Wahlburgers and Mommalicious Cakes and Treats.
