Suspect In Custody After Standoff With Police In Rockland

After shutting down both sides of Route 139 in Rockland during a standoff Friday, Rockland police say they have a man in custody.

ROCKLAND, MA — A man is in custody after a brief standoff with police in Rockland.

Rockland police reported a 'major incident' near the Hanover line around 1:40 p.m. Friday that prompted the closure of Route 139 in both directions in that area.

Heavy police presence with guns drawn could be seen surrounding a white Mercedes sedan, WCVB reported.

A few minutes later, the incident resolved peacefully, and a man was seen being handcuffed outside the car, WCVB reported.

Police are urging people to use liberty Street or Summer Street as an alternate route instead.
