Fatal Saugus Crash Claims Life of Wilmington Man

Accident happened on Rte. 1 southbound in Saugus Wednesday afternoon.

A dump truck rollover in Saugus just after 2 p.m. Wednesday has claimed the life of a Wilmington man.

The accident happened at Rte. 1 southbound at the Lynn Fells Parkway in Saugus and closed lanes for several hours impacting traffic in the area.

State Police from the Danvers barracks responded just after 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to a crash involving a dump truck on Rte. 1 South, north of the Lynn Fells Parkway in Saugus. Information collected in the investigation by Trooper Roland Cormier indicates a man was traveling on Rte. 1 South in a dump truck when his vehicle struck the left side guardrail, causing it to roll onto its side before returning to an upright position in the roadway. The operator and sole occupant of the dump truck was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

Just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Massachusetts State Police said the victim in the accident died. State Police were on scene Wednesday afternoon conducting an investigation and accident reconstruction.

WHDH, 7-News is reporting the driver of the truck, who died in the accident is a 62-year-old Wilmington man.

State Police said Wednesday night, the cause of the crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. State Police were assisted on scene by Saugus Fire and EMS, Saugus PD, members of the State Police Community Action Team.
