Why Does the Town Common Have Purple Lights?
The countdown is on to the town's annual Relay For Life which will be held on June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Middle School.

The American Cancer Society uses purple to symbolize survivorship. Today in the US there are almost 14.5 million cancer survivors, and this month Wilmington will light the Common purple to honor these people. The lighting is coinciding with the countdown to the town’s annual Relay For Life which will be held on June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Middle School. That event also honors survivors.
The Relay is actually not an athletic event. It’s a family fun gathering where teams of people simply take turns walking laps around the designated campsite area. Relay is an overnight experience with food, music and entertainment for all.
Everyone is invited to attend and share in the fun, even if not registered with a team. For more information, please contact Julie Rauseo at 781-314-2668 or at Julie.Rauseo@cancer.org. You can also visit www.wilmingotnrfl.com.
