Wilmington Dealing With Rash Of Illegally Dumped Dog Waste Bags
Picking up after your dog is only a good deed if you DON'T dump it in the town's catch basins.

WILMINGTON, MA -- The town's Department of Public Works has a message for an unidentified dog owner -- or maybe dog owners -- in the are of Lt. Buck Drive, Moore Street and other areas of Wilmington: stop dumping your dog's waste in catch basins! Wilmington Animal Control Officer Christopher Sullivan said in a Twitter post that the DPW recently removed a large amount of dog waste bags that were dropped in catch basins.
"This (is) a MAJOR violation in storm water quality, and illegal. Violators can and will be fined," the post warned.
Dog waste left on the ground is a major contaminant, so it's even worse when it's dumped into catch basins that funnel storm water off roads and into water sources. E-coli and salmonella are just two of the myriad of diseases humans can contract from dog waste. Dog waste should always be picked up and sealed in a plastic bag and disposed of in a trash receptacle.
