Wilmington Firefighters to Shave Heads in Fight Against Childhood Cancer

Organizers hope to raise more than $20,000 at event being held at Red Heat Tavern on Saturday, June 13.

For the second year in a row, Wilmington Firefighters Local 1370 and Red Heat Tavern are teaming up to help fight childhood cancer.

Last year they raised more than $18,000. This year they are setting the bar higher and hope to top $20,000 in their fundraising efforts, all for their friend Anthony N., 11, of Wilmington currently in treatment with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and all children battling cancer.

Firefighters will be shaving their heads in support of the fight against childhood cancer. In 2014, more than a dozen firefighters shaved their heads raising awareness in the community.

The St. Baldrick’s event takes place on Saturday, June 13 from 1-4 p.m. at Wilmington’s Red Heat Tavern, located at 300 Lowell St. Whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer or donate, both the Wilmington Firefighters and Red Heat Tavern hope everyone will be part of the event. Also on hand at the event will be a sports memorabilia auction, raffles, a DJ, “Be the Match” bone marrow donor registry, t-shirt sales and face painting for children.
