Wilmington Has a New Town Moderator, Champoux Handily Retains Selectmen's Seat

See how residents voted in the annual town election Saturday, April 25.

The Wilmington Town Election votes are in and the winners have been announced.

In one of two contested races on the Saturday ballot, it was a close one between Town Moderator candidates Leigh J. Martinson and Robert G. Peterson, Jr. with only 247 votes separating the two. But in the end, Peterson won the election with 1,296 votes to Martinson’s 1,049.

In the selectmen’s race, incumbent Michael Champoux handily won over challenger Kevin MacDonald with 1,954 votes to MacDonald’s 330.

Only 2,370 of the town’s 15,806 voters participated in Saturday’s election with a turnout of just about 15%.

School Committee (two seats):

  • Mary Jane Byrnes (candidate for re-election) - 1,845 votes
  • Manny L. Mulas (candidate for re-election) - 1,542 votes

Housing Authority (one seat):

  • Leona C. Bombard (candidate for re-election) - 1,821 votes

Regional Technical Vocational School Committee (one seat)

  • James M. Gillis (candidate for re-election) - 1,934 votes
