Anne Spry tells Patch why Waterfield Sotheby's International Realty is a leader in the greater Boston real estate market.

Waterfield Sotheby’s International Realty is a residential real estate company located in Winchester. The company started in 2006 with seven agents and has since grown to 23 agents. The team's cohesiveness and combined years of experience provide clients with the highest level of service and knowledge one can expect in this industry.

Anne Spry, owner and broker of Waterfield Sotheby’s International Realty, explains how the company continues to provide excellent real estate advice as it grows, helping both buyers and sellers efficiently navigate the complex real estate market.

Spry: I have been selling real estate in the Winchester area since 1994 and in 2006 I started Waterfield Sotheby’s International Realty.


Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?

Spry: I was not completely fulfilled with my desk job at a Boston investment company, so my husband suggested I try real estate. I started on a part time basis and quickly fell in love with real estate, the challenges it brought, the interaction with the clients and the joy in the end result. I soon quit my desk job to pursue a full-time career in real estate and never looked back.


Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?


Spry: Selling distinction in all price ranges.


Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?


Spry: Deciding to start Waterfield Sotheby’s International Realty on my own, because the balance shifted from being responsible only for myself to becoming responsible to offer a great work environment for like-minded quality real estate professionals.


Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?


Spry: The most satisfying part of my job on a daily basis is working with my agents. I enjoy helping them hone their analytical and negotiation skills, and then combining those skills with the Sotheby’s International Realty’s marketing expertise to transition their clients from one home to another.


Patch: How would you say your business distinguishes itself from the others?


Spry: Waterfield Sotheby’s International Realty is distinguished in its culture. For 270 years, the Sotheby’s name has assured a standard that we all firmly adhere to and Sotheby’s International Realty is an extension of that. Sotheby’s has been in business since 1976 serving the Real Estate market with the highest standards and levels of customer service one should expect when working with an agent. Each of us strongly believe in this standard and we are a cooperative group of agents providing ethical, excellent service and knowledge to all of our buyer and seller clients.


Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?


Spry: Do the absolute best work you can, and treat people respectfully and honestly.


Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?


Spry: We continue to expand our service area beyond Winchester, becoming more of a regional resource for our buyer and seller clients.


Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community?


Spry: We are reaching out beyond our community to help people overseas who are currently homeless or living in deplorable conditions. We’ve partnered with New Story, an innovative charitable foundation that builds homes for those currently living in slums across the globe. Our office, together with The Leva Group and agents Lesley Smith, Katie Tully and Marion Crandall, has pledged to fund two homes for families in Mexico. I am always proud to help our clients find homes in local communities and now this initiative gives us the chance to extend that internationally and really make a difference to these people’s lives.
