McCall Students Win Poster Contest

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority received more than 1,750 posters and 1,100 writing entries in its annual contest.

Five students from won Massachusetts Water Resources Authorityʼs annual poster and writing contests.

Melissa Zavez, grade 8, won First Place in the poster contest. Caroline Keller, grade 6, and Nina Trhirkova, grade 8, won Honorable Mention. Spenser Leuba, grade 8 and David Li, grade 6, won Honorable Mention in the writing contest.

A ceremony honoring the winning students and their teachers was held at Deer Island on May 25. Steve Swymer, Town of Winchester Water Superintendent and Leanne McGahan, Town Business Manager, attended the event to congratulate the students.

This year, students from schools across MWRAʼs service area were challenged to create posters about what happens at the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant or to write about the benefits of water conservation. MWRA received more than 1,750 posters and 1,100 writing entries.

The annual poster and writing contest is part of MWRAʼs School Education Program, which educates students and teachers about the public health significance of water supply and wastewater treatment.
