Nothing Happens Until There’s An Election

In a Letter to the Editor, resident supports Caroline Colarusso in race for State Representative.

A Letter to the Editor from Peggy Schleicher:

I’ve had enough of politicians who suddenly wake up right before an election.

Winchester will soon be facing significant and costly operational overrides. Our schools are bursting at the seams with increasing growth in student population. State 40b projects will be adding to that growth. The Muraco and Lynch buildings are falling apart. Repairs/rebuilding are desperately needed. The roof at the Winchester center train stop is dilapidated and pieces of it are falling in commuters’ coffee cups. Traffic is at a standstill in our town. We need help to address the problems that need fixing and the state dollars to support those priorities. Instead of focusing on what needs to be done to address these critical priorities, Representative Day is advocating for building a hockey rink on the Fells property.

To set the record straight, I applaud the dedication and determination of our hockey players. But there’s a right way and a wrong way to build a hockey rink. This last minute hockey rink proposal by Representative Day less than a month before the election is the wrong way to do business. Don’t take the bait. This is a play for votes and we deserve better. What about Friends of the Fells? What about taxpayers? Litigation is inevitable.

Time to change the political tide. Caroline Colarusso is the person who can do that. She has proven leader with a track record of working for taxpayers while bringing accountability and common sense to government. She is a 2-term Stoneham Selectwoman with 5 years on the Finance and Advisory Boards. She has brought long overdue change to Stoneham by addressing the priorities and needs of Stoneham while maintaining fiscal balance. She fought for tax incentives to spurt economic growth - something Winchester could use. Every vacant storefront is filled in Stoneham and those revenues help to ease the real estate residential tax burden. She fought to restore their Recreation Dept. so that it would be fully funded and operating without tax dollars in three years. She thinks outside the box. She has done it for Stoneham -- and she’ll do it for Winchester. Caroline is a watchdog for taxpayers. She’s a strong advocate for our children and will work to fix the broken school funding model. Caroline stands with our veterans, and is the voice for our seniors, and working families..
