Police Logs: Porche Bursts Into Flames

Saturday, June 16
6:17 a.m.: Officers responded to call about a suspicious vehicle parked on Washington Street around 1:15 a.m. There was a man sleeping in his car. The officers reported they smelled alcohol. The report said the vehicle was not running, keys were not in the ignition and the car was parked legally. The officers towed the vehicle and drove the resident home with a stiff warning.
6:09 a.m.: The Soapbox Laundromat’s alarm went off at 1:30 a.m. The only damage officers and the owner could find was the kicked-in back door. There were no cameras at the business or surrounding businesses to survey for footage of suspects.

2:07 p.m.: An abandoned green Trek Antelope Mountain Bike was found at the . It was returned to the .
4:04 p.m.: A resident complained about receiving a dog bite on his left forearm after he patted a dog in a vehicle. He received a tetnis shot from the and followed up with the owner making sure the dog was up-to-date on its shots. The other owner provided this information to the police department. The resident said he did not wish to pursue the matter any further.

Sunday, June 17
10:27 a.m.: A Medford resident picked up his 1986 Porshe from a garage on Lawrence Street that had some maintenance done on it. The driver noticed smoke coming from the gearbox area of the interior of the car while driving on Route-93. The smoke gradually got worse, and the driver had to abandon his car at the intersection of Main and Stowell streets. The vehicle broke out into flames and was fully engulfed when officers and firefighters arrived. The fire was extinguished by the fire department.
5:06 p.m.: A Honda CRV collided with a bicyclist while attempting a lefthand turn onto Main Street from Hemingway Street. The cyclist was traveling south on Main Street and said the vehicle pulled out in front of him causing him to collide with the front left of the vehicle. The cyclist had minor scrapes to his arms and legs, but refused medical attention. The vehicle had no visible damage, and the bicycle had damage to the front tire.
10:29 p.m.: A Dorchester resident reported the windshield of his Ford Focus was damaged while parked in the parking lot. The owner said he parked his vehicle facing the skate park and went to the Unitarian Church and when he returned, he noticed the damage.
