WEATHER UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorms Expected This Afternoon
Weather forecasters are calling for "torrential rainfall and frequent lightning."

Thunderstorms producing gusty winds and heavy rain are expected to move into the region on Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Services says a line of showers and thunderstorms will affect much of the area this afternoon, with the most of the activity and strongest storms focused across eastern Massachusetts. This includes the Greater Boston area southward to Cape Cod.
The NWS said a few of the storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph, torrential rainfall and frequent lightning.

Weather officials said showers with embedded thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening, with the possibility of street flooding.
The NWS said areal coverage and intensity of these storms will peak between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. before weakening toward and after sunset Thursday.
