Why Can't Colarusso Speak At Jenks Center?
In a Letter to the editor, resident says Jenks Center is wrong to prevent Caroline Colarusso from speaking to seniors.

A Letter to the editor from Peggy Schleicher:
Caroline Colarusso, who is running to represent us as our next state representative, is desperately trying to penetrate Winchester venues to be able to speak directly with voters but is facing entry barriers. Recently she asked to be able to talk with Seniors at the Jenks Center and was told no candidates can come in during an election year.
As a lifelong resident of Winchester (a senior) and long-time supporter of the Jenks Senior Center, I was deeply disappointed by this response. I would like my fellow Winchester senior population to hear what she has to say. Her untiring work with seniors, especially in raising Alzheimer’s awareness, is important to seniors.

As a “senior” I find this “policy” unacceptable because it denies us the opportunity to be meet candidates and ask questions of them that matter to us in the comfort of “our” home, the Jenks Senior Center. This “policy” creates a tilted playing field as the incumbent state representative can host multiple events in a non-election year getting a leg up on any challengers. I asked for the “policy” in writing that substantiates this Jenks Center policy. To date I have not been provided such information.
Caroline is a refreshing change and not a typical politician. She is the longest serving member of the Board of Selectmen in Stoneham and is one of the most authentic people I have ever met. Her commitment and breadth of experiences with all age groups is refreshing. Her professional work boasts over 25 years as a senior manager which won her many awards and promotions. But there’s more to Caroline … She played and coached girls high school ice hockey in Stoneham. She is well suited for the job as State Representative. I think she deserves equal access and a level playing field.

There are enough obstacles that women face in all areas of society. I am urging my fellow Winchester residents and community groups to “give Caroline a Chance.” She is running on a platform of repealing the 40% pay raise the incumbent State Rep Mike Day voted himself. She is also opting out of the state pension system unlike her opponent. She offers solutions rather than just talk to issues that affect not only seniors but also millennials. You will find her to be very responsive to your requests.
