Winchester Superintendent 'Committed to Resolving' Principal Kiley Saga

"I am committed to resolving this issue before the start of the school year on Sept. 8," Evans said in an email on Kiley's resignation.

Superintendent Judith Evans is thanking the community for its patience after announcing the resignation of Winchester High School principal Sean Kiley in an email two weeks ago.

Students, parents and teachers were all shocked to learn the news of Kiley stepping down after just one year on the job. The situation only became more puzzling when Kiley publicly stated that he had not stepped down.

On Wednesday morning, Evans issued the following email:

“I would like to thank the Winchester community for its patience over the past several days. I would especially like to recognize the parents, students and residents who have taken time in recent days to meet with me or write to me to share their questions and concerns.

This has been a challenging and difficult time for many and I recognize that our inability to provide more information, due to its personal nature, has been frustrating for everyone. I want to make sure, due to the personal nature of the issue that it is addressed with the greatest respect to all involved.

I do appreciate your understanding and I apologize that I have not been able to share information more frequently over these last several days. I am committed to resolving this issue before the start of the school year on Sept. 8 and I look forward to continuing to work with our community to ensure that the needs of our Winchester High School students are met throughout this year.”

Kiley, who keeps a personal blog, wrote “Again, I have not resigned and love my position as the Principal of Winchester High School and wish to continue to serve as Principal of Winchester High School for the 2016 academic year and beyond,” Kiley wrote in his personal blog.

Some parents in town have started a petition to recall multiple School Committee members in effort to help Kiley retain his post.
