Altavesta Elementary Holds Successful Literacy Event

The Altavesta Elementary School in Woburn held a well-attended literacy promotion event with literacy games for parents and students

WOBURN – Altavesta Elementary held a successful event promoting the importance of literacy centered around the theme of camp last week.

Students, staff, parents, and community members attended Camp All-Star Literacy Night on Thursday, May 12. More than 100 students gathered outside a life-like campfire to listen to stories. Students and parents participated in engaging literacy games and activities later in the night, including bingo and board games created by the Altavesta teachers.

Literacy Connection Planner Christy Nickerson provided students in attendance with backpacks filled with materials to support literacy at home, including a bookmark and literacy-based games.
Representatives from the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn, Woburn Recreation, YMCA, and Woburn Public Library, attended and shared information about summer learning opportunities for students.
