The fire came amid lingering severe drought conditions across the region.
WOBURN, MA — A summer of brush fires and fire warnings continued in Woburn on Wednesday with a small brush fire near Woburn's YMCA location on Lexington Street, the Woburn Firefighters 971 union said Thursday morning.
The union shared a photo of crews helping wet down flames in an area under high tension power lines near the YMCA.
“Still very dry out there,” the union said of current conditions.

Weather and fire experts have warned throughout recent months about extreme drought conditions and resulting heightened fire risks across the region.
Hot and dry, this summer has led to brush and forest fires both small and large, with area crews regularly dousing smaller flare-ups in yards and woodland habitats.

Regionally, crews then spent several weeks last month battling fires across dozens of acres in places including the Breakheart Reservation in Saugus, and the Lynn Woods Reservation in Lynn.
Though those fires have been contained, and though recent rain has eased area drought conditions to some extent, Woburn remained under “severe drought" conditions as of Thursday according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, still posing a fire risk among other things.
