City Council Battles Chick-fil-A Over Proposed Drive-Through in Woburn

City officials say the Woburn Landing site at Washington Street is already lousy with traffic.

If the Woburn City Council has its way, a new Chick-fil-A slated to open at the Woburn Landing Project won’t have a drive-through.

A report from the Daily Times Chronicle says council members think the site at the former W.R. Grace building is already heavily congested with traffic, and some of them aren’t convinced a drive-through will make access to Chick-fil-A more convenient, thereby defeating its own purpose.

“It’s a bit of a trip through a bit of a maze to get to the Chick-fil-A drive-through,” said Alderman at-large Michael Concannon, at a meeting last week with the council’s Special Permits Committee and the Woburn Landing developers, according to the source.

“It’s a very, very condensed site. That drive-through scares the hell out of me.” said Ward 5 Alderman Darlene Mercer-Bruen.

However, representatives from the developers - Madison Properties - say Chick-fil-A won’t work without a drive-through component.
