The Trojan defense started the day off strong, forcing Wakefield to turn the ball over after only four plays. Unfortunately, they were right back on the field after Woburn fumbled the ball. The Warriors proceeded to move the ball down the field to the 4-yard line. On fourth down, Woburn’s John Zakrewski and Dylan Thompson made a great defensive stop that kept Wakefield out of the endzone and put their offense on the 10-yard line.

Woburn’s offense impressively moved the ball to Wakefield’s 29-yard line. Faced with 4th and 6, quarterback Ryan Qualey kept the ball and ran 14 yards to keep the drive alive. Three plays later, and with great blocking by Peter Cole, James Taft, Jonathan Avery, Jared Zolubos, John Lafferty, Matt Qualey, and David Langlois, John Zakrewski ran the ball into the endzone for six points and for the only points scored in the first half.

Two Woburn turnovers early in the third quarter did not hush the encouraging cheers from the Gulde Insurance Agency cheerleading squad. The Trojan defense continued to make great plays, including a nice stop in the backfield by David Langlois which prevented the Warriors from reaching the first down marker on a 4th and 7. The offensive drive ended with another Woburn fumble, but the defense continued to persevere and make great plays.

Late in the fourth quarter, Woburn’s offense took over on Wakefield’s 37-yard line. They moved the ball all the way to the 5-yard line, but a holding penalty pushed the ball back ten yards. From the 16-yard line, Ryan Ludwig caught a screen pass from Ryan Qualey and then proceeded to fight off multiple defenders to cross the goal line. For the extra point, Qualey handed the ball to Dylan Thompson to make the score 13-0.

Ryan Qualey then put his mark on the game with an interception to end Wakefield’s chances of scoring.

Others earning recognition for their great play include Jayson Blouin, Dylan Zolubos, William Mahoney, Eyan Russell, Emanuel Polanco, Rennie Cyprian, Kris Chiary, Cash Kingstad, Jaden Russell, David Nardone, Cameron Chute, Jack Aylward, Colin Harkins, Ahriq Mason, and Ryan Dever.

The D1 team will participate in a dogfight with Wakefield and Waltham in which the top two teams will advance to the playoffs. The game time and location TBD.
