High School Football: Woburn Drops Heartbreaker to Arlington

The Tanners let a 12-point lead slip away in the game's final minutes on Friday night against Arlington.

The Woburn High School varsity football team had their third victory of the season secured Friday night when they suffered a stunning collapse in the game’s waning minutes of play against Arlington.

Woburn held a comfortable 33-21 advantage with a shade over four minutes left in the game. The Tanners allowed Arlington to cut the score to 33-28 and then allowed them to recover the ensuing onside kick. Arlington then remarkably found the end zone again to win the game 34-33.

The Tanners led Arlington 20-0 at halftime. It appeared as if head coach Rocky Nelson was going to secure his 200th career win, but Alec Coleman’s three rushing touchdowns for Arlington sparked a comeback that won’t soon be forgotten.
