How Did Woburn Vote in the Special State Primary?

Woburn voters chose the same candidates that voters elected state-wide.

The results are in from the Massachusetts Special State Primary to fill the vacant seat left by now Secretary of State John Kerry.

The primary consisted of two official Democratic candidates and one write-in candidate and three Republican candidates.

On the Democrat side, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-8th), U.S. Rep. Ed Markey (D-5th) and Brett Rhyne (write-in candidate) faced off in the primary. Former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez, former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and State Rep. Dan Winslow (R-Norfolk) faced off in the Republican primary.

Massachusetts party voters elected Markey to run for the Democrats and Gomez to run for the Republicans.

How did Woburn vote?

Woburn Democrats also went with Markey with 1,833 votes compared to Lynch's 1,797. There were seven "write in" votes among the Democrats.

Also like the rest of the state's voters, Woburn Republicans went with Gomez with 640 votes. Sullivan garnered 508 votes and Winslow got 104. There were five "write in" votes cast by Republicans.
