Mayor Galvin: Woburn Has Received $4.7 Million for Montvale Avenue Project

An open letter from Mayor Scott Galvin posted on his Facebook page.

The following is a post by Mayor Scott Galvin:

I am pleased to announce the City of Woburn has received $4.7 million toward a long-needed project to widen Montvale Avenue in the area near its intersection with Route 93.

Special thanks to Ward 5 Alderman Darlene Mercer-Bruen, who coordinated neighborhood and residential participation and attended the Boston meeting to speak in support of the much-needed project. Thanks also to Woburn Planning Director Ed Tarallo and the Woburn Planning Department for their hard work helping to obtain the funding, as well as Sen. Kenneth Donnelly, State Rep. James Dwyer and State Rep. Jay Kaufman for their continued support over the last two years to help make this happen.

I am very happy about the approval of the Transportation Improvement Program funding by the Boston Regional Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), for which I have served as a member representing the City's and local region's interests since 2011. I am also grateful that we were joined at last week’s MPO hearing by a group of residents, business owners, local officials and state officials in urging support of these critical improvements and road-widening aimed at alleviating the traffic congestion in that busy stretch of roadway.

Letters of support are still encouraged, and should be sent to David Mohler, Chair, Boston Regional Metropolitan Planning Organization, 10 Park Plaza, Suite 2150, Boston, MA 02116-3968 during the comment period. A final vote by the MPO is scheduled for June 2013.
