The council will be required to approve a $13.5 million bond authorization for the project on behalf of the city, according to Mayor Scott Galvin.

The remaining $18 million in funding will come from an array of areas, including a state grant, a donation, library naming rights and fundraising.

Galvin estimates the authorization will add about $35 to annual residential tax bills. Galvin feels the upgrades to the library are long overdue and that the changes will “invigorate and revitalize Woburn Center.”

CBT Architects, of Boston, is designing the library upgrades. The library was originally designed by Henry Hobson Richardson.
