POLICE LOG: Dog Distracts Driver, who Downs Crosswalk Signal Pole

The following is an excerpt from the  log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

July 26 – At 10:58 p.m., police responded to a hit and run on Pleasant Street at North Warren Street, where a crosswalk signal pole was completely knocked over, exposing the wires. The signal was still functioning. Police located the vehicle that hit the pole at the owner’s home, according to the report. The operator reportedly told police he was driving north on Arlington Road, toward North Warren Street, when the dog in the truck cab “acted up.” The driver swerved to the right and hit the signal pole.  He was not injured. Police found paint from the pole on the truck. The truck’s front bumper was hanging low on the passenger side. Police cited the operator for impeded operation.

July 26 –

At 5:07 p.m., the manager of a company in Cummings Park reported that $13,000 in furniture has “gone missing” over the last few months. The furniture include three cherry pieces:  a conference table, valued at $4,000; an L-shaped desk, at $3,000; and a credenza, at $2,000; and two copiers, valued at $2,000 each.  The equipment was located at a separate office in West Cummings Park. The manager told police that when the company bought out another business, they bought all property, including furniture and office equipment.  An older copier that the manager says is not the company’s was put in place of the two newer ones. The manager’s new boss decided to bring the issue to the police and to Cummings.

At 6:39 p.m., a School Street resident told police that when he came out to his truck in the morning, he discovered a BB-sized hole in the passenger window. When he opened the passenger door, the entire window shattered.

At 11:46 p.m., a woman reported a problem with a boyfriend of 19 years who she is trying to break up with. She said she is receiving emails at work from an unknown Yahoo account and that the man allegedly said he was coming tonight to take her car. He has a key. Police told her to call them or 911 immediately if he arrived. They also made extra checks of her property.

July 27 –

At 2:28 a.m., police responded to a report of a male and a female arguing. Both parties said they “argue all the time,” according to the report, “for what seems to be no reason.”
