POLICE LOG: Man Finds Fellow Tenant Dead

The following is an excerpt from the  log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Featured Call of the Day:

July 22 -- At 10:48 a.m., a Woburn man came to the police station to report a dead man in his house.  Police found a man dead in a third floor room of a multi-tenant house on Munroe Street.  They described the incident as a sudden death, with no signs of trauma, no crime involved.  Two tenants said they drank beer with the man (no age given) the previous night until around 1 a.m., when he left to use the bathroom. They said he did not appear intoxicated, had no history of drug use and they were unaware of any health issues.  A tenant found the man Sunday morning when he went to check on him.

July 20 --

At 12:09 p.m., a driver southbound on Cambridge Road pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and hit four cars, one in front of him and three going in the opposite direction. One driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

At 2:57 p.m., a man reported that about $300 in coins had been taken from his change jug in the past few weeks. The man has been staying in a local hotel. Police advised the man to find a better place for the change holder.

At 6:10 p.m., a Woburn man reported that a cell phone he bought in April for $234 never arrived and the New Jersey company refuses to refund his money. The company told the man the phone was shipped via the US postal service and gave him a tracking number.  The Woburn post office said no package had been shipped or received for the man and that no tracking number was sent.

At 6:34 p.m., a resident of the Conn Street area flagged down an officer and told him his ex-wife was at his home, intoxicated and he did not want her there. He found a friend for her to stay with. The friend took the woman’s car keys. Police told the friend not to return the keys until her friend could drive unimpaired.

At 10 p.m., police responded to a home where a man reportedly came home yelling about money and told his wife to leave in front of their two children. The 12-year-old left with his father; the 8-year-old stayed with his mother.  Police plan to inform the child services agency about the incident.

July 21 --

At 4:28 a.m., a Medford resident told police she was run off the road at the Route 38 rotary at the 128 overpass and almost hit a cement overpass support. Woburn’s Fire Rescue treated her and transported her to Winchester Hospital. The woman told police she was headed to 128 north when a black Honda Accord appeared from nowhere and almost cut her off. When police arrived, the woman had a large bump forming on her forehead. Her car had three flat tires and other damage from hitting an earth embankment before stopping about four feet from the cement pillar.

At 5:12 p.m., police responded to a call of a shoplifter at Kohl’s. The woman reportedly took a new pair of shoes and left hers. She is no longer allowed on any Kohl’s property.

July 22 --

At 8:04 a.m., a Woburn woman reported receiving threatening phone calls after she ended a six-year relationship three weeks ago.  The man has called her every day since, up to six calls a day. Some of the messages are “dark and violent,” she reported.

At 9:06 a.m., a Woburn woman driving east of Pleasant Street between Burlington Street and Wolcott Road crossed the median line, struck the left curb, blowing out her left tires, overcorrected her steering and struck the right curb, blowing out her right front tire. The woman told police she wasn’t feeling well after recent surgery. Police cited her for failing to stay in marked lanes. The vehicle was towed. Police told the woman’s husband, who came to transport her, to not let her drive until her condition improved.

At 11:23 a.m., a Woburn man reported that his I-phone was stolen while he left it in his Jeep overnight, charging. A friend tracked the phone to Lowell. Police gave him information to bring to Lowell police.

At 11:57 a.m., police responded to a call of an assault between roommates. One man reportedly pulled a chair out from the other as he went to sit at the kitchen table.  The first man said he held the chair so his roommate would not fall.  He did fall; he did not appear injured. The landlord spoke to both men, who reportedly argue frequently.

At 7:13 p.m., police responded to a report of a basement screen being cut at a home on Forest Park Road and someone trying to reach in through the opening. Unable to open the locked window, the person left.

At 9:39 p.m., a car apparently northbound on Unicorn Park Drive failed to negotiate a turn and ended up lodged against a tree. The driver was taken into protective custody.  Both the vehicle and the landscaping at 700 Unicorn Park Drive were substantially damaged, according to the report. Police found the car owner walking in a nearby parking lot.
