POLICE LOG: Residents Get Call From 'IRS' Warning of Arrest Warrant in Phone Scam

At 2:04 p.m. police responded to a Westgate Drive residence on a report of harassing phone calls. The caller said his wife had received a phone call that morning from someone claiming to work for the IRS. The “IRS” caller told the caller’s wife that they had a warrant out for her husband’s arrest. The caller said he called the number back and was told to go to a local Walmart and put money on a green card and wire the money to them to avoid arrest.
The caller said he called the IRS and they told him there was no warrant out for his arrest.

June 12-
At 10:16 a.m. police responded to Carroll Road for a report of identity theft. The caller said that on May 30 she received a letter from the Social Security Administration indicating that an on-line account with her information had been created. She said she did not create account. She said she is concerned about her automatic deposits, which come from the agency to her bank account. She said she checked with her financial institution and they said no fraudulent activity had occurred.
At 12:21 p.m. a Heritage Road resident reported harassment from a neighbor. The caller said that while he was walking his dog his neighbor drove past him from the oncoming direction and did not swerve to give him and his dog room. The caller said the neighbor then drove by him from behind and came very close to hitting him.
The caller said the neighbor has acted aggressively towards him a number of times over the past couple of years. He does not know why and said they never had an altercation.
Police advised him that he could apply for a hearing regarding the incident in Woburn District Court and he could apply for a harassment prevention order.
