Small Fire Knocked Down in Mill Street Apartment

and responded to several reports of a building fire at 78 Mill St. at approximately 8:40 p.m. Monday night. 

According to scanner transmissions, residents were removed from the building on the first and second floor by Woburn Fire. Firefighters then moved into the basement, where, according to police, there was a heavy smoke condition. 

A small fire, which was found in a first-floor apartment, was knocked down quickly by Woburn Fire, according to several reports on the police scanner.

By 8:52 p.m., the fire had been put out, but due to the large numbers of fire apparatus in the area, Woburn Police was diverting  traffic down Mill Street toward Stoneham.
