WOBURN, MA — The monumental transportation package passed by the Massachusetts legislature early Wednesday morning included millions in funding for infrastructure projects in Woburn.

The $16.5 billion transportation bill includes 3 major projects involving Woburn:

  • $10 million for the design and construction of an on-ramp from Cedar Street to Route 93 Southbound between exits 36 and 37.
  • $2 million for creating a pilot Transportation Management Association between Melrose, Stoneham, Winchester and Woburn
  • $1 million for a pedestrian walkway and bike path between the Anderson Regional Transportation Center and the transit-oriented development at the former Woburn Mall site

"The Burlington and Woburn delegation worked together to support the priorities of our towns and I am very pleased that these priorities were included in the final bill," state Sen. Cindy Friedman said about the bill. "This is proof that the Senate and House can work together for the betterment of our communities."

The bill is now on Gov. Charlie Baker's desk. Baker can sign or veto it, but any veto cannot be overridden by the Legislature because that session is now over.
