Which Road in Woburn Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

Woburn, MA- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Woburn. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Woburn you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

  • "Mill Street, especially near the entrance to the apartment complex and also the other end down near the condo complex where Mill St. curves and has a slight hill at the curve."
  • "Lake Ave. All vehicles, all sizes speed so fast and gun it at the curve in front of the Apartments and Horn Pond! I've seen so many accidents. It's so hard for pedestrians to cross. So dangerous!"
  • "Winter street and Mountain Road."
  • "People drive too fast period. You'd need to put speed bumps everywhere and still I don't think that would be enough to slow people down."
  • "Arlington Road in front of the Pond. People FLY down that street and there are walkers, bikers, kids & dogs everywhere!"
  • "The off ramps onto the 38 Rotary and then onto Main Street."
  • "Locust Street (between Willow and S. Bedford). I used to live there and big trucks would fly through at 45 mph."
  • "Instead of a speed bump, how about a light where Pine and Salem meet? Please and thank you."
  • "Hilltop Terrace! And a cop to bag every person that blows the stop sign on Buttaro Rd!"
  • "Clinton Street and Mishawam Road"
