Woburn Appliance Recycling Drive Will Benefit Area Nonprofits

The Medeiros Crew Recycling group is planning its latest recycling drive in Woburn.

WOBURN, MA — Woburn community members needing to recycle appliances and/or electronics have a chance to also contribute to a cause with their recycling next month when the Medeiros Crew Recycling group is set to run its latest recycling drive event.

The drive is set for Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Spence Farm property at 41 Wyman Street in Woburn. Proceeds associated with the recycling drive will benefit local nonprofit organizations and a scholarship fund for Woburn Memorial High School students.

“Clean out those basements, attics, garages, and warehouses and bring your items to the next drive,” the city said in a recent event announcement.

The drives offer recycling of items ranging from televisions, to refrigerators, to dishwashers at reduced prices compared to curbside appliance recycling programs.

This upcoming event is open to residents and businesses from all communities.

The Medeiros Crew has organized several drives over the years, raising over $220,000 as noted in the city’s event announcement.

In addition to monetary donations, the crew is also collecting cell phones free of charge to be donated to the Cell Phones for Soldiers program, which either resells or recycles phones to pay for cost-free communication services and emergency funding for active-duty members of the military or veterans.

Currently preparing for their Sept. 17 event, the Medeiros crew will be back at the Spence Farm site in October for another recycling drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 15.
