Woburn City Council President Higgins Steps Down

The Ward 7 alderman cited "professional reasons" in her March 2 resignation from the city council.

WOBURN, MA — Woburn City Council President Lindsay Higgins unexpectedly resigned from the council at the end of their meeting Tuesday.

"I am writing to you all to announce that due to professional reasons I am regrettably resigning as Alderman of Ward 7 upon adjournment of the March 2, 2021 Regular Meeting of the City Council," Higgins read aloud at the council meeting.

Alderman Edward Tedesco was unanimously elected council president in her place.

Higgins was elected president in July, 2020, when Michael Anderson resigned to become a state judge.

Higgins, an attorney, has been the Ward 7 alderman since 2015.

"It has truly been an honor to serve the city in this capacity for over five years," Higgins said. "I want to thank my fellow colleagues on the Council that entrusted me with being President, as well as all of those I have served and worked with over the years."

Higgins thanked her constituents, Mayor Scott Galvin and the city's department heads and employees.

"We have done some amazing things for the betterment of the community," Higgins said. "Though not without difficulties, especially over the last year with the COVID-19 pandemic, with our commitment to community, we maintained Woburn’s reputation as a desirable and affordable place for individuals, families, and businesses to thrive."
