Woburn Clerk To Head State Campaign Finance Office April 12
William Campbell was selected Feb. 26 to lead the Office of Campaign and Political Finance.
WOBURN, MA — Woburn City Clerk William Campbell is set to leave the city and take over the state campaign finance agency April 12.
Campbell was selected by a search panel including Secretary of State William Galvin, Democratic Party Chairman Gus Bickford, Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons and Boston College Law School Dean Vincent Rougeau.
Campbell is due to earn an annual salary of $172,000 as head of the Office of Campaign and Political Finance, the State House News Service reported. State officials are still figuring out how long his term will last.

He is replacing Michael Sullivan, who has led the agency since 1994. Sullivan retired at the end of 2019, but came back during the pandemic to run the office as the public health crisis delayed the search for a successor.
Sullivan had a base salary of $177,367 in 2019 and $172,008 in 2018, according to state payroll records, the State House News Service reported.

The Office of Campaign and Political Finance administers Massachusetts campaign finance law, including a limited public financing system for statewide candidates and the campaign finance disclosure system and online portal.
