Woburn Man with $7,000 in His Pocket Caught Skipping MBTA Fare, Say Police

MBTA Police say Timothy Chapman, 35, of Woburn, tried too hard to save a few bucks.

There’s nothing wrong with being frugal, but some people take it too far.

For instance, MBTA Police say they busted a Woburn man for dodging the $2.20 subway fare at Back Bay Station. Thing is - he had $7,000 in his wallet at the time.

The report from Transit Police says on Thursday, June 4, at approximately 2:20 p.m., they caught Timothy Chapman, 35, of Woburn, piggybacking behind another customer to avoid paying his fare at the South End train station.

Chapman had a warrant for traffic violations out for his arrest, which made it arguably a poor decision on his part to do something that would attract the attention of law enforcement - especially when he could have easily just paid his fare.
