WOBURN, MA — Longtime Woburn Mayor Scott Galvin has said that he intends to seek an eighth term in office, the Daily Times Chronicle reported.

Galvin, who was elected to the first of seven two-year terms in 2009, can officially begin pulling nomination papers on May 1. The election is scheduled for Nov. 7.

"I truly enjoy the job and have been doing it now for seven terms," Galvin told the Daily Times Chronicle. "We've made great progress for the city in terms of infrastructure and finances, but there's still a lot to do."

Galvin was elected for his seventh term in November 2021, when he received nearly two-thirds of the vote in a race against School Committee Chair Ellen Crowley.

Though a resounding win, the race was closer than Galvin's 2019 victory over Liz Pedrini, a real estate agent.

Galvin is Woburn's longest-serving mayor since the city transitioned to two-year mayoral terms in 1931.

Among Galvin's accomplishments touted on the City of Woburn website are leading Woburn to a Moody's AAA bond rating for the first time in city history and earning more than $1.6 million in state Green Communities grant funding for successful energy and cost-saving initiatives.

According to the website: "(Galvin) has a proven record when it comes to investing in education and infrastructure, support and programs for senior citizens, preserving open space, supporting enhanced wellness and recreational opportunities, fostering our diverse community, and aggressive measures to eliminate neighborhood blight and crime."

Galvin, the city's 34th mayor, is a Woburn native and attorney who previously spent 16 years representing Ward 3 on the City Council.
