WOBURN, MA — Woburn's latest class of elected officials were sworn in Monday in an abbreviated ceremony at City Hall.

Ceremonies were cut short due to the surging omicron coronavirus variant. City Clerk Lindsay Higgins and Mayor Scott Galvin's family were absent due to contracting the virus themselves, although Galvin said his family had cleared the isolation period.

Assistant Clerk Joyce Gray presided and swore in the new and returning mayor, city councilors and School Committee members.

"That means investing in" schools, infrastructure and amenities like parks and recreation, the mayor said to launch his seventh two-year helming the city.

"I've had the honor [of doing so] over the past 12 years and I look forward to doing it again working with the City Council and School Committee," Galvin said.

Following the inauguration, the council met to elect a new president. The outgoing President and Ward 6 Alderman Edward Tedesco opted not to run for re-election in November.

Alderman-at-Large Michael Concannon was elected president.

Simultaneously, the School Committee elected John Wells as its new chairperson, the Daily Times Chronicle reported.
