Woburn Overwhelmingly Votes Down Community Preservation Act

Voters also elected new aldermen in Wards 1, 6, and 7.

Voters in the City of Woburn made their voices heard in Tuesday’s Municipal Election, overwhelmingly voting down the Community Preservation Act.

The act would have imposed a one percent tax surcharge to help pay for open space purchases, preservation needs, affordable housing and other recreation projects.

Woburn shot down the proposal in all voting precincts. 3,756 residents voted against it and 1,969 residents voted in favor of it.

New aldermen were also elected in Wards 1, 6, and 7.

Joanne Campbell edged Kevin Meaney in the race for Ward 1 Alderman. Edward Tedesco beat John Paladino in the race for Ward 6 Alderman. And finally, Lindsey Higgins earned a victory over Charles Viola in the race for Ward 7 Alderman.
