Woburn Police Warn Of Suspicious Social Media Links
The police said links purportedly advertising Woburn Police Department merchandise are not affiliated with the department.
WOBURN, MA — Woburn Police on Thursday night warned community members about a series of suspicious links shared on social media.
The links advertise sweatshirts and other clothing products for sale bearing the Woburn Police Department logo. The Woburn Police, though, are not selling any such merchandise.
“This is in NO way affiliated with our department,” the police said on Thursday.

The links had appeared as comments on other Woburn Police Facebook posts, according to police.
The links mirror some scams that have been reported across the country in recent weeks and months.

In some cases, posters get into community Facebook groups and advertise T-shirts with a city or town founding date and logo.
Other incidents have seen scammers send emails or text messages advertising various merchandise directly to people. Merchandise has often been related to police or fire departments.
Various agencies and municipalities have warned community members to avoid clicking on these types of links.
