Woburn Receives $242K Grant for Energy Reduction Initiatives
The City of Woburn was one of more than 50 other municipalities to receive grant money from the state.

The City of Woburn received a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources Green Communities program, aimed at implementing more energy reduction initiatives in the city.
The $242,000 grant from the DOER will be used to fund a number of energy conservation measures. The Competitive Grant will be used for retro commissioning of the energy management systems at Memorial High, Malcolm White Elementary and Reeves Elementary Schools; lighting retrofits with LEDs and/or occupancy sensors at Reeves Elementary, Joyce Middle, Linscott-Rumford Schools, the Senior Center and the Police Station; and at the Police Station, HVAC and energy management system upgrades and replace of a rooftop unit, according to the state.
A total of $8,894,583 will be distributed among 51 cities and towns in the Bay State to fund the clean energy projects.

According to state officials, the DOER grants issued to the more then 50 municipalities will provide funding for numerous clean energy and sustainability projects, including high efficiency lighting, installation of insulation and energy management systems at municipal building and facilities, LED streetlights, oil-to-gas heating system conversions and more.
