WORCESTER, MA — During a predicted dangerous heat wave, one of three public swimming pools in Worcester will be closed for the week.

Worcester parks employees discovered pieces of glass in the water at the Crompton Park Pool on Monday. Now the city will have to drain all the water, remove remaining glass pieces and then balance the chemicals. That work will take until Saturday, city officials said.

The two Department of Conservation and Recreation state pools in Worcester — Dennis F. Shine Jr. at Vernon Hill Park, and Bennett Field Pool — will be open as usual this week, as will Worcester's lakeside beaches and splash pads.
