Beloved Animal Control Officer In Worcester Dies Suddenly: WPD

He served with the police department for 12 years.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester is mourning the loss of a beloved animal control officer.

Matthew Ohman, who has served at the Worcester Police Department for 12 years, died suddenly on Sunday, according to WPD. Ohman died playing basketball, a sport that he loved. He was 41.

Ohman was born and raised in Worcester and followed in his grandfather's footsteps to join the police force. The Worcester Police Department shared the news on social media, writing he "will be missed terribly by all who knew him."

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 17, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street.

The funeral will be there on Monday, August 18, at 11 a.m.

In place of flowers, the family is asking contributions to be made to the Ohman Children’s Scholarship Fund, care of Worcester Police Department Federal Credit Union, 805 W Boylston St.
