Black Bear In Worcester Tranquilized, Relocated: Police

The bear was seen standing over a Route 146 overpass on Sunday morning, according to state police.

WORCESTER, MA — Police tranquilized and relocated a black bear seen standing along a highway overpass in Worcester on Sunday morning.

According to state police, the bear was spotted around 8:15 a.m. Sunday along McKeon Road where it crosses over Route 146. State police, Worcester police and Environmental police all responded to contain the omnivore, using a tranquilizer to knock it out.

"The sedated bear was moved to a more accommodating location, away from major roadways and population centers. After a refreshing nap, the bear was released uninjured," state police said Monday.

Black bears can be found widely across central Massachusetts, but usually in forested areas. Black bears sometimes wander into urban areas, especially if there's food available.
