Discounted Driver's Ed Expansion Gets Green Light From Worcester Schools

WORCESTER, MA – The Worcester Public Schools will expand cost-discounted driver’s education for high school students in the 2025-26 school year.

Worcester Public Schools partnered with the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, CMSC Driving School, and the Worcester Educational Development Foundation, according to a news release from Worcester Public Schools.

The discounted driver’s ed program is designed to help Worcester high school students obtain driver’s licenses. The program will be offered at Worcester Technical High School this summer and expand to other WPS high schools during the 2025-26 school year.

Central Mass. Safety Council Driving School will publicize registration links when class schedules are finalized, the release said. Those with questions may contact the CMSC Customer Service Team at 508-835-2333.

"This initiative aims to make it easier and more affordable for students in Worcester to gain this important credential, which is the second most commonly required qualification on job postings nationwide," the release said. "A valid driver’s license can open doors to a wide range of career opportunities, even in positions where driving is not a primary responsibility.

The Chamber and the Worcester Educational Development Foundation are also launching the The Keys to Career Readiness scholarship fund for students who cannot afford the reduced rate, the release said.

"Drivers licenses are crucial in today’s job market," Karen Pelletier, Executive Vice President at the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, said in the release. "For many local students, the absence of a driver's license can limit their job opportunities, regardless of the career path they choose. This program will help level the playing field, providing a vital tool for future success."
