Fairway Beef abruptly closed down on July 3, 2021, after 75 years in business — with speculation the closure was related to a possible development due to its proximity to the new Polar Park.
The Sigel family opened the market in the Canal District in 1946. The store sold all types of meat cuts, plus staples like bread, eggs and deli cheese.
