WORCESTER, MA — Compared to 2022, the 2024 state-level elections in Worcester will be a breeze.

Two years ago, state Sen. Robyn Kennedy and Mayor Joe Petty — both Democrats — battled to take over the seat vacated by longtime senator Harriette Chandler. State Rep. David LeBoeuf faced a challenge from Worcester firefighter Paul Fullen, a Republican. Former senator Anne Gobi — now the state Director of Rural Affairs — fended off Republican James Amorello.

In 2024, almost no Worcester state lawmakers are facing challengers.

Democratic State Sens. Michael Moore and Kennedy, and Democratic state Reps. LeBoeuf, James O'Day, John Mahoney, Mary Keefe and Dan Donahue will all coast to reelection in November. Worcester District Register of Deeds Kathryn Toomey is also running in an uncontested race.

State Sen. Peter Durant won Gobi's old Worcester and Hampden District seat in a February special election. The district touches a small portion of southwest Worcester near Stafford Street.

Outside Worcester, Democrat Anthony Allard, a Monson resident, has signed up to run against state Sen. Ryan Fattman, R-Sutton.

Incumbent 7th District Governor's Council member Paul DePaulo is also facing a challenge from Republican Andrew Couture, a Fitchburg city councilor.

Although the candidate filing deadline passed on Tuesday, candidates have until 5 p.m. Friday to withdraw from the 2024 election. The Secretary of the Commonwealth will publish an official list of candidates June 4.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Anthony Allard is running for the Worcester and Hampden District seat.
