Fire Inside Worcester School Forces Student Evacuation

All students and staff were safe and uninjured.

WORCESTER, MA — A fire broke out at a school for Pre-K through sixth-grade students in Worcester on Tuesday morning.

There was a small fire inside a classroom at the Belmont Street Community School around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the school district. All students and staff were evacuated immediately and remain safe and uninjured.

The fire department responded and allowed everyone back in the building. Principal Jennifer Keating issued a communication to families and will provide more information once it is available.

Some classes were moved, and others were able to return to their classroom. Parents and caregivers were also informed that they could come to the school if they chose to dismiss their child.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.
