French Toast Heaven: This MA Diner Just Earned National Praise

WORCESTER, MA — Who among us can resist the delights of a diner? Welcoming carafes of coffee, fat menus, greasy bacon and eggs, stacks of pancakes, a weird number of mirrors — the joys of this quintessential American eatery abound.

With that in mind, Love Food has named the most charming roadside diner in every state. And in Massachusetts, the restaurant that's got it going on in the charm department is the Miss Worcester Diner.

Here's what Love Food had to say about the list's Massachusetts representative: "This legendary Worcester diner, which has been going since 1948, has an entire menu dedicated to French toast, with flavor options including strawberry cheesecake, apple pie, and Oreo cookies and cream. Breakfast features all of the classics, as well as worldwide cuisines such as Italian, Irish, Greek, Mexican, and Polish. Lunch is a menu of sandwiches, soups, and burgers. Customers love the food and the homey atmosphere."

The historic diner at 302 Southbridge St. was built in 1948 by Worcester Lunch Car Company and is located across the street from the company's now-defunct Worcester factory. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

And customers agree with Love Food's ranking. Miss Worcester has an impressive 4.7-star rating on 1,746 Google reviews.

Dishes getting high marks include the crunchy French toast, the corned beef omelet, and the Irish breakfast.

Other diners in New England making the list include the Olympia Diner in Newington, Connecticut; Haven Brothers Diner in Providence; The Blue Benn in Bennington, Vermont; the Palace Diner in Biddeford, Maine; and the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester, New Hampshire.
